Platform

As a member of the Marana School Board, my focus would be on school-aged kids and doing what is best for them. To accomplish this, a close partnership with parents is vital. I see an opportunity to make strides to prepare for a better future for education in Marana.

It's all about the kids.

I am going to work for Kids First policies. Kids need to be considered first when it comes to school policies. Parents should feel comfortable that their kids' education is foremost in all decisions.

Parent partnership.

MUSD still has a long way to go in improving opportunities for true partnership with families. Studies show that true strong parent partnerships improve student attendance, garner higher math and science scores, improve graduation rates, and overall better-quality education. I am currently working on an initiative to get parents closer to their children's education. With the support of teachers and families, we are forming a true partnership with input and responsibility on both sides. We have already seen some success! Working together, we can help MUSD grow by leaps and bounds.

3

Transparency.

The school board is answerable to the people, and stakeholders in our district should have access and dialogue with Board Members. No "phoning in" to meetings. No "too busy to talk to constituents." We should know what they think and what their philosophies are. When the district was proposing a new literacy program, I took advantage of the preview period. I spent days looking through materials to make sure that as taxpayers, we were getting value for our multi-million dollar purchase. As your voice on the school board, I will make sure that any district actions are transparent and above board.
